ERG Hygrade’s packed tower scrubbers are engineered to effectively treat air and process gas streams by removing harmful and soluble gases through a proven counter-flow design. As the contaminated gas travels upward through the scrubber, it meets a carefully distributed downward flow of scrubbing liquor—facilitating efficient gas absorption.
This absorption occurs either by direct solubility in water or through chemical reaction with a dosing reagent, depending on the gas type. Our systems are designed for high efficiency through optimal gas-to-liquid contact, uniform flow distribution, and precise control of velocity and scrubbing rates across the packed bed.
Packed tower scrubbers are ideal for removing a wide range of contaminants, including:
• Hydrogen chloride (HCl)
• Ammonia (NH₃)
• Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
• Sulphur dioxide (SO₂)
• Chlorine (Cl₂), phosgene, hydrogen sulphide (H₂S)
• Amines, bromine, nitric acid, methanol, and formaldehyde
-
Structured random packing in the central section, supported by a custom-designed packing plate, maximising surface area and scrubbing efficiency.
-
Liquid distribution system to ensure complete and even coverage of the packed bed.
-
Droplet eliminators in the upper section to prevent moisture carry-over—available in horizontal or vertical configurations to suit site layout.
-
Integrated base sump, serving as a reservoir for scrubbing liquor with access for water top-up, chemical dosing, and safe drainage of spent fluid.
