Hygrade supplied a high-performance two-stage odour control system for Prosper De Mulder Ltd (PDM), a rendering specialist within the SARIA group. The solution was designed to effectively treat foul odours generated during the processing of Category 3 animal by-products at one of PDM’s major UK facilities.
This installation – designed and fabricated to British Standard BS 4994 – marks the second Hygrade system supplied to PDM, following the successful delivery of a similar package to their Silvertown site in 2012. Both systems form part of SARIA’s ongoing commitment to responsible environmental management and community engagement.

.
The latest system comprises a first-stage wet chemical scrubber using dilute sulphuric acid to neutralise ammonia, followed by a second-stage deep bed activated carbon filter for the removal of VOCs. The package also includes a recirculation pump, integrated pipework, an extract fan, interconnecting ductwork, and a grease filter to protect the carbon media – all fully assembled and tested prior to delivery.
PDM has reported a significant improvement in environmental performance, with both sites showing a marked reduction in odour emissions and a corresponding drop in local complaints.
